JOIN US FOR ADVENTURE

Morton’s Motorcycles is proud to announce Adventure Rider Training hosted by BMW Brand Ambassador Shawn Thomas and BMW Brand Expert Louise Coleen Powers!

WANT TO LEARN ADVENTURE RIDING?

Maybe you have the dream. Maybe you’ve picked out the bike, purchased the gear, and even planned the trip. Or maybe you are a seasoned motorcyclist that is looking for the next chapter in your riding experience. This is a great place to be, and we want to help you to be best prepared for this adventure. And that comes through training.

WHY TRAINING?

Whether it be sport, touring, dirt, or track, motorcyclists often bring their existing skills to the world of Adventure Riding. Some of these skills marry seamlessly to riding ‘big’ bikes off-road, and some do not. Whether you are new to the sport or an experienced adventure rider, there is no substitute for professional, thoughtful coaching from experienced professionals. This will help you learn and understand new skills, and reinforce those that you already employ.

PROFESSIONAL COACHING AND TRAINING.

Shawn Thomas is an Internationally Certified Off-Road Instructor with 22 years coaching experience and a passion helping Adventure Riders be the best they can be. Louise Powers is a world-traveling Adventure Rider with more than 10 years coaching experience and tens of thousands of miles racked up on her bikes. And at under 5’ 4” tall, Louise has a unique understanding of what it takes to ride “big” adventure bikes (she owns and rides a BMW R 1300 GS ADVENTURE!).

Together, Shawn and Louise bring decades of experience teaching over 10,000 Adventure Riders worldwide. When you train with this team of Adventure Riders, you are in the hands of seasoned professionals who want to make you a better and more confident rider.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR THE EXCEPTIONAL ADVENTURE RIDER

The best riders will tell you that 4 Core ElementsBalance, Braking, Clutch and Throttle Control—are critical to achieving nearly all you would ever want to accomplish on an Adventure Motorcycle. These fundamental elements are where your training will begin. Through a series of instruction, drills and coaching, Shawn and his team will hone, combine and enhance these core elements, thereby building your skills AND confidence.

YOU CAN DO MORE THAN YOU THINK.

Some of the most common feedback received by Shawn and Louise include, “I can’t believe what I can do that I couldn’t do when I got here!” The building-block structure in which students are taught ensures that fundamental elements needed for safe, effective riding are learned, practiced and built upon. In this way, students often find themselves excelling in areas they thought outside their reach.

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • ARE ALL BIKES WELCOME?

Yes! Shawn and Louise welcome all adventure motorcycles from all manufacturers. If it has 2 wheels and is designed to ride off-road, bring it!

  • WHAT SORT OF RIDING SKILL DO I NEED IN ORDER TO ATTEND?

This course is not designed to teach people how to ride, but rather to enhance existing skills to include off-road riding on an adventure bike. Therefore it is important that students have experience riding motorcycles. Off-Road riding experience is not required!

  • WHAT KIND OF TIRES WILL I NEED?

A dual-sport tire with 50% remaining tread wear is recommended. Knobby tires are welcome but not required

  • WHAT KIND OF RIDING GEAR SHOULD I WEAR?

Protection from falls is critical. All riders will be required to wear at minimum: DOT approved helmet, gloves, long pants, a shirt and close-toed shoes. Beyond this, it is recommended that full riding gear be worn, including: a full-face helmet, armored Jacket/pants, and off-road or dual-sport oriented gloves/boots.

  • HOW SHOULD MY BIKE BE PREPARED?

Falls and tip-overs are quite common when learning these skills. They usually do not result in injury or harm to your motorcycle. Still, it is a good idea to prepare your motorcycle. Common protective upgrades include engine protections bars, a skid plate, valve cover protectors (BMW Boxer-Twin Models), hand protectors, radiator guards, and a headlight guard. Also consider larger, off-road oriented footpegs and handlebar risers, all of which should be available through Morton’s!

  • WHAT ELSE DO I NEED?

It will be a fun and sometimes exhausting day of learning! Please bring plenty of water and some snacks for when you need a quick pick-me-up. Hydration Backpacks are ideal, as they allow riders to drink on the go.
